Event Chair: Restore Our Shores

DETAILS:

Become an Oyster Gardener with Restore Our Shores!

Cocoa Beach Osyter Gardeners

Oyster Gardening is an opportunity for lagoon-front homeowners to participate in Brevard Zoo’s Restore Our Shores program by raising oysters for future restoration projects. To be an Oyster Gardener, you must first attend a training workshop to learn about Indian River Lagoon restoration and how to care for oysters.

Think you would be a good fit to be an Oyster Gardener? We ask that Oyster Gardening meet the following requirements:

  • Have a dock on the Indian River Lagoon in Brevard County OR live in an HOA community that has a community dock.
  • Can commit 1-2 hours of time per week to maintaining oyster habitats.
  • Not planning to be out of town for extended periods of time (more than 2 weeks) over the next 6 to 7 months.
  • Can lift 30 lbs.

The next Oyster Gardening workshop will be spring/summer of 2023 to get ready for baby oysters in the fall/winter of 2023. If you would like to be an Oyster Gardener, sign up today to be contacted when workshops are scheduled.

Don't have a dock on the IRL but still want to help out with Oyster Gardening? Sign-up and we'll train you to become an OYSTER BUDDY! They help assist our gardeners and the members of the ROS team with the Oyster Gardening project.

If you have any questions, please email Restore Our Shores, restoreourshores@brevardzoo.org.

We look forward to having you join our lagoon-loving community!
