Oyster Sorting October 3

Event Chair: Restore Our Shores

DETAILS:

Join the ROS team for Oyster Homecoming! Oyster Homecoming is when our Oyster Gardeners return the oysters they’ve been caring for throughout the year so they can be used on an oyster reef in the Indian River Lagoon. Volunteers will help our team receive, move, and organize oyster habitats as gardeners arrive throughout the day.

LOCATION: Rotary Park at Suntree – Large Pavilion
6495 US-1, Rockledge, FL 32955

DATE: October 3
TIME: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

This is a land-based activity. Volunteers will not be entering the water.

Registration is required for all volunteers. Participants must be at least 15 years old, able to work outdoors, and comfortable with lifting and carrying. Volunteers will be helping receive oyster habitats from gardeners, move them from vehicles, and organize them for our team, so please expect some lifting, carrying, and bending throughout the shift.

Closed-toe shoes are mandatory (no flip flops, Crocs, Keens, etc.). Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear clothing that you do not mind getting dirty. We also recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, water/water bottle, snacks, lunch, and anything else you may need for the day.

A volunteer waiver will be emailed to you prior to the event.

If you have any questions, please contact us at restoreourshores@brevardzoo.org.
