Oyster Reef Building October 10th
Event Chair: Restore Our Shores
DETAILS:
Please join us as we place a new oyster reef on the bottom of the Indian River Lagoon.
LOCATION: Satellite Beach (map and location will be emailed a couple days before the event)
TIME: 9 am to 2 pm
Registration is required and volunteers must be 15 years or older, be able to be outside in full sun during their shift and be able to lift roughly 30 pounds. Volunteers will be placing coquina rocks into the oyster corrals and spreading shell within the module.
This is a water activity and you will be in the water. Please wear closed toe shoes such as dive booties or old sneakers (no flip flops, Crocs, Keens, etc.), clothes that can get wet and dirty (long sleeve shirts preferable), hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc. Please bring with you a towel, water/water bottle (you can refill as needed from the water coolers), snacks, lunch and whatever else you will need for the duration of the day. Volunteers will be transported to the reef site via a pontoon. There is no close access to land and no restrooms. In case of emergencies, staff will transport anyone back to the parking area via the pontoon. Also, it's been advised that any jewelry be removed that can easily get snagged (i.e. rings, bracelets, necklaces).
A volunteer waiver will be emailed to you prior to the event.
